Résumé de la formation

This workshop (7 sessions of 2 hours) is designed to improve your communication skills. As a PhD
candidate, you spend several years deeply exploring a given field, but how do you present your work
and yourself when you go to conferences, when you do outreach events, when you talk to your family
about your work, or when you are trying to get a job? Thinking about improving your communication
skills will help you attract interest to your research and to yourself and increase your chances of
successful collaborations and future professional work.

The workshop consists of highly interactive team-based activities, where you will get to know yourself
and your colleagues better, and explore storytelling as a way to transmit your message more
effectively. It will cover the basics of storytelling and body language and alternative but useful visual
communication techniques for presentations and posters, all of which you can practically apply
immediately when you attend conferences, present your work in lab meetings, or when you are being
interviewed for your next job.


  • 1st session – storytelling exercises, how to introduce yourself and your story
  • 2nd session – Pecha-Kucha 20x20 format, practicing presenting yourself in front of an audience
  • 3rd session – specificities of body language when presenting online vs. in person, creating presentation slides with meaningful titles that tell the story
  • 4th session – giving a 3 minute talk about your research, introducing “better poster” to present your research project
