Cette distinction prestigieuse soutient un projet qui s\u2019attaque \u00e0 une question encore largement inexpliqu\u00e9e : pourquoi certaines personnes, pourtant fortement expos\u00e9es au risque de cancer, ne d\u00e9veloppent jamais la maladie.<\/p>\n Traditionnellement, la recherche sur le cancer s\u2019est concentr\u00e9e sur les m\u00e9canismes favorisant l\u2019apparition des tumeurs. L\u2019\u00e9quipe ATLAS propose une approche inverse en s\u2019int\u00e9ressant aux facteurs de protection. En effet, certains individus pr\u00e9sentant des pr\u00e9dispositions \u00e9lev\u00e9es ou des expositions \u00e0 risque restent pourtant indemnes de cancer. L\u2019objectif des chercheurs est d\u2019identifier les m\u00e9canismes biologiques responsables de cette r\u00e9sistance naturelle. Une telle d\u00e9couverte pourrait ouvrir la voie \u00e0 des strat\u00e9gies innovantes de pr\u00e9vention et de protection contre la maladie.<\/p>\n Au c\u0153ur de cette recherche se trouve l\u2019\u00e9tude des auto-anticorps<\/strong> et de leur r\u00f4le dans la modulation du syst\u00e8me immunitaire<\/strong>. Pour mener leurs travaux, les scientifiques s\u2019appuient sur des cohortes humaines uniques, comprenant notamment des centenaires, des personnes expos\u00e9es \u00e0 des facteurs de risque \u00e9lev\u00e9s mais n\u2019ayant jamais d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 de cancer, ainsi que des paires de jumeaux dont un seul est atteint. Cette approche s\u2019inscrit dans la continuit\u00e9 des travaux pionniers du Dr Bastard, qui avec le Pr Jean-Laurent Casanova avaient d\u00e9j\u00e0 mis en \u00e9vidence le r\u00f4le des auto-anticorps<\/strong> dans la s\u00e9v\u00e9rit\u00e9 de la COVID-19<\/strong>.<\/p>\n \u00ab Comprendre les m\u00e9canismes de la r\u00e9sistance naturelle au cancer permettrait d\u2019\u00e9clairer les raisons pour lesquelles certaines personnes \u00e9chappent \u00e0 la maladie, ouvrant ainsi la voie \u00e0 des strat\u00e9gies pr\u00e9ventives et diagnostiques potentiellement r\u00e9volutionnaires \u00bb, souligne le Dr Paul Bastard.<\/p>\n Le projet ATLAS r\u00e9unit des cliniciens, chercheurs et repr\u00e9sentants de patients issus de huit institutions r\u00e9parties dans six pays. Les expertises mobilis\u00e9es couvrent des domaines vari\u00e9s, allant de l\u2019immunologie<\/strong> \u00e0 la multi-omique<\/strong>, en passant par la p\u00e9diatrie<\/strong>, le vieillissement<\/strong>, la pr\u00e9vention<\/strong> et les interactions entre maladies infectieuses et cancer<\/strong>.
