diiP at a glance
Data Science and Data Intelligence represent major technological and societal challenge of our times. They refer to processes, algorithms and systems for extracting useful insights and knowledge from large data collections. They cover a spectrum of fields that includes data extraction, collection, integration, cleaning, storage, access, management, processing, analysis, learning, visualization, and sharing, and they have the potential to accelerate progress in science, industry, and society.
Data may come in different forms, from various domains and applications, including biology laboratories, neuroscientific and behavioral experiments, intensive care units, smart manufacturing, smart cities, small to very large text corpora, social networks, the monitoring of natural phenomena, the study of the universe, and others.
The Data Intelligence Institute of Paris (diiP) is a digital laboratory that fosters and supports the emergence of interdisciplinary practices around data science and data intelligence, integrating and capitalizing on the world-leading expertise in the domains practiced at the partner institutions, including formal sciences (mathematics, computer sciences), physical sciences (physics, astronomy, geoscience), life sciences (medicine, biology, neuroscience), and social sciences (linguistics, psychology, sociology, political science, economics, law, history).
The diiP institute responds to changes in research practice regarding the analysis of and learning from data, by addressing the corresponding technological and methodological challenges, by supporting the multidisciplinary approaches required by the new scientific, environmental and socio-economic problems, and by training young researchers in the fields of data science and data intelligence.
