Ce cours est indépendant de celui proposé au second semestre : les oeuvres abordées seront différentes. Il est possible, mais pas obligatoire, de s’inscrire aux deux cours.

This class will take the form of a book club, where participants are invited to share their thoughts, pose questions, and make connections. We will discuss short stories from a range of writers hailing from both sides of the Atlantic, from Edgar Allan Poe to Zadie Smith, and will consider the ways in which these writers use the short form to differing effects, taking into account the social, biographical and literary context of each work.
A brochure will be provided at the start of the course, but participants are welcome to suggest additional reading.
Possible works include stories from: Edgar Allan Poe, Herman Melville, James Joyce, Virginia Woolf, James Baldwin, Raymond Carver, Zadie Smith, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

Comme le cours se déroule entièrement en anglais, un niveau de langue avancé est requis (minimum B2).

BIOGRAPHIE

Née au Royaume-Uni, où elle a fait ses études en lettres anglaise à Liverpool puis à Londres, Francesca Sartorius est professeure agrégée d’anglais à l’Université Paris Cité.
