Following the canonical insertion of queer theory in academic debates, queer of colour theorisation has to sought to interrogate crossings of race, sexuality, gender, class and nation in order to produce nuanced analyses of power and privilege. Established academics and queer of colour activists have contributed to the burgeoning critique of whiteness in queer theory and hetero-centrism in people of colour (POC) activism.

The critical genealogy of queer of colour critique explicitly draws from black and third world feminisms. This seminar considers queer of colour critique in relation to its departure from conventional accounts of queerness in our globalised times, offering a comprehensive understanding of rubrics and vocabularies of queer studies and queer of colour critique.
