COVIDSCAPES

The COVIDSCAPES linguistic landscape analysis project was born in March 2020, during the first lock-down. A launch post was published in the GRIP blog to give the main outlines of the project.

This first stage of photography of confined Paris was completed by work carried out as part of the “Language and globalisation” course with the contribution of students from the Master 2 DDL (Didactique des Langues) and Master 2 SDS (Signes, Discours et Société) courses, who were introduced to Linguistic Landscapes Analysis. Other photographs were added to the initial stock, covering the period from September 2020 to January 2021. The comments and analyses of these photographs were the subject of various presentations (sound ppt, videos, short films) according to the technical capacities of the tandems formed.

The COVIDSCAPES programme is currently being extended to include digital education, with the support of the Institut des Défis. Indeed, since March 2021, F. Mourlhon-Dallies has been integrated into the UP U-Lab programme, for everything concerning the digitalisation of the programme: this digital variation “COVIDSCAPES: Interdisciplinary research training tools” (to be found on CRI-projects)

Another collaboration between IdEX Interdisciplinary Institutes is planned with the Ad Memoriam Covid-19 Institute, from April 2021. It consists of integrating part of the corpus of 600 photographs from COVIDSCAPES on the Ad Memoriam platform, with simplified keyword querying of the image stock.

Project leader: Florence Mourlhon-Dallies, internship student: Matthieu LOUIS-JEAN
