Notre invité d’honneur sera :
- Pr. Léo Joosten, Radboud University Medical Centre, Nijmegen, The Netherlands : Trained immunity, memory of innate immunity in health and diseases
Prof. Leo A.B. Joosten is a pathobiologist and full professor of mechanisms of inflammatory diseases at Radboud University in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. He is a leading international scientist in the areas of inflammation and infectious diseases. Joosten worked for more than 25 years in Rheumatology research identifying mechanisms of cartilage and bone destruction. One of his discoveries was that IL-1 is the pivotal cytokine mediating joint destruction. His research during the past ten years has focused on the role of cytokines in the pathogenesis of chronic inflammation and was aimed to find novel inhibitors to treat patients with these inflammatory diseases. His group has covered the contribution of PRR (TLR and NLR) in the chronicity of inflammation. They discovered multiple novel inflammatory cytokines and mechanisms of cell regulation of inflammasome activation. Very recently, they explore the intra- and inter-individual variability of the human immune system, focus on environmental factors, genetics, microbiome.
Especially, they explored the role of immunometabolism and epigenetic reprogramming in the induction of innate immune memory or trained immunity. Joosten has published more than 600 scientific publications, in the top scientific and medical journals, including papers in Science, New England Journal of Medicine, Cell, Nature Medicine, PNAS. His H-index is 114 and his work is cited
more than 52.549 times. A recent (2020 and 2021) search for the world most cited researchers (Clarivate Analytics, Highly Cited Researchers) showed that Joosten belongs to the top 1% (CrossField and Immunology). Joosten is owner of 8 international patents in the field of diagnostics and
therapeutics.
