Coordinated by the Labex Who Am I? and edited by the philosopher Jean Gayon, L’identité. Dictionnaire encyclopédique was published on October 8, 2020, by Gallimard. More than 120 contributors worked on this unique project. Researchers explain the origin and the challenges of the identity, with, in their sights, the defense of interdisciplinarity.

Couverture de L’identité. Dictionnaire encyclopédique

Édition publiée sous la direction de Jean Gayon, collection Folio Essais (n° 666), Gallimard.

At a time when identity claims are legion, L’identité. Dictionnaire encyclopédique proposes to go upstream of a tendency which uses a philosophical concept in order to mobilize it on the sole ideological and political ground. Researchers involved in this project explain their approach in a few words:

  • Jonathan Weitzman, professor of genetics at Université Paris Cité, co-founder of the Labex Who Am I?
  • François Villa, professor of psychopathology at Université Paris Cité, co-coordinator of the Labex Who Am I?, co-director of the Institut “La personne en médecine”
  • Gaëlle Pontarotti, philosopher of biology, post-doctoral fellow at the Institute of History and Philosophy of Science and Techniques
  • Virginie Courtier Orgogozo, research director at CNRS, head of the Drosophila evolution team at the Jacques Monod Institute
