Impact of publications with the Open Science perspective
Summary of the course
This module focuses on the analysis of publications, in other words: bibliometrics. What are the purposes of bibliometrics it for? What are the indicators, methods and challenges of bibliometrics? The training covers the contribution of literature analysis to the optimization of bibliographic research and the identification of networks, which influences publication strategies. Focusing on the analysis of research, bibliometrics also allow identifying shortcomings in scientific integrity or editors with questionable practices. Furthermore, this module provides a critique of the individual indicators of publications success (e.g., h-index) as well as collective indicators (e.g., citations, impact factors of journals, any metrics related to the use and diffusion of papers).
Programme
Overall, this module provides the skills and tools to 1) think critically about the issues of bibliometrics, and 2) improve the visibility and accessibility of scientific publications.
This blended course includes a self-training session (2H) in Moodle and a live webinar a few days later (1H):
- The self-training session aims at presenting the definitions, resources and tools used in the Open Science approach through short capsules of contents and short training activities. Participants will complete this asynchronous part within 10 days (deadline 3 days before the final webinar).
- The final webinar will be very interactive and aimed at 1) debriefing the self-training phase 2) going further to help you to set out open science good practices for your research project.
Module program:
- Indicators on scientific production: who are the users and producers?
- What are bibliometrics?
