Built on the strengths of its founding institutions, UPCité is a research-intensive university, internationally recognised and ambitioning to have a positive impact on society, as embodied by its motto “Planetary Health: healthy people, in healthy societies, on a healthy planet”.
UPCité fosters cutting-edge research, ranging from fundamental to applied, while delivering high-quality training designed to address societal needs through interdisciplinary approaches. Its overall strategy is built around three core objectives as it thrives to be:
1. A high-performing university:
- advancing scientific excellence by supporting a comprehensive range of cutting-edge research fields and fostering interdisciplinarity at multiple levels;
- delivering state-of-the-art educational programmes by encouraging innovative pedagogy, developing interdisciplinary curricula, and empowering students in their professional development;
- enhancing the efficiency of administrative support and strengthening governance capacities through the development of adequate tools.
2. An influential university:
- pursuing an international strategy centred on strong strategic partnerships (such as the Circle U. European Alliance), reinforcing its international status through active involvement in European higher education and research initiatives, expanding internationalisation activities (abroad and at home), and cultivating strategic partnerships with a select number of world-class institutions worldwide;
- building a unique innovation ecosystem in Europe, bringing together national research organisations, laboratories of excellence, industrial partners, experimental platforms, Company for Accelerating Technology Transfer (SATT) and more;
- implementing a dedicated alumni policy.

To achieve these ambitions, UPCité relies on a careful and timely combination of resources. Some funds must be spent within a single year, while others — such as those from France 2030 projects — extend over a ten-year period; some are tied to contractual objectives, whereas others may be used with greater flexibility.
UPCité has aligned these different financial tools to ensure a coherent and efficient use of its resources to attain its goals, leveraging the IdEx funds as a springboard, a transition support or a boosting mechanism before, alongside, or after other funding streams. In this way, UPCité has integrated each France 2030 project into a unified framework of strategic objectives and financial resources, avoiding duplication and ensuring efficiency in the implementation of its priorities.
