Course overview

The “Frontiers in Chemistry” master’s program at Université Paris Cité in Paris aims to train researchers and engineers specializing in chemistry, able to work at the interface with biology, physics and numerical sciences. This is an international program bringing together students from French and foreign universities. The master’s program is supported by high-level research laboratories with international reputation and network.
This program offers a solid training in both the fundamental discipline of chemistry and its interfaces, to prepare the students for the challenges of today and tomorrow in 4 target sectors: energy, health, biotechnologies and numerical chemistry.

The main objective of the first year is to provide students with a strong background in chemistry During the first semester, a common core enables them to consolidate their undergraduate skills, and to develop the soft skills that will enable them to evolve in their future professional environment. During the first semester, the students can choose between two tracks: molecular chemistry or physical chemistry, along with two options. From the second semester onwards, the students specialize in 4 possible itineraries: Chemistry for Energies (ChemEnergies)., Molecular Chemistry for Health (ChemHealth), Chemistry for biotechnologies (ChemBiotech), Numerical Chemistry and Artificial Intelligence (NumChem).

In the second year, students continue their specialization in their chosen itinerary. Their training is accompanied by concrete projects that introduce them to the conception and writing of research proposals. The program offers two internships: a short internship at the end of the first year and a 6-month long internship at the end of the second year. The students can carry out these internships in an academic or industrial laboratory, in France or abroad. Scholarships are available to facilitate international mobility.

Skills and competencies developed
  • Strong fundamental background in chemistry
  • Expertise at the interface with chemistry
  • Depending on the chosen M2 itinerary: Molecule/material/surface characterization, organic synthesis, biological/physical/numerical chemistry.
  • Openness to multi-disciplinary approaches, team effort, link with the world of research
  • Autonomy enabling to evolve, work and communicate in an international scientific context
