The 2025 call for projects between Université Paris Cité and the University of Toronto met with great enthusiasm within the scientific communities of both institutions. Eighteen proposals were submitted by pairs of researchers; five projects were selected at the end of the joint selection process.

About the Call for Projects 

In April 2025, Université Paris Cité and the University of Toronto renewed their joint call for proposals, reaffirming their shared commitment to developing collaborative research initiatives. Open to all disciplines and research fields, this program aims to provide seed funding to foster long-term academic partnerships.

5 projects selected

This second edition of the joint call for proposals attracted strong interest. A total of 18 applications were submitted jointly by teams from Université Paris Cité and the University of Toronto: 7 in health, 3 in the humanities, and 8 in sciences (of which, 1 IPGP projet). The joint selection committee selected 5 projects for funding.

A project in Humanities :

  • Re-Orienting Female Mobility in the Early Global World”, led by Ladan Niayesh (UPCité) and Sebastian Sobecki (UofT).

A projects in Sciences :

  • “Effects of Excess Potentials on Dynamics of Multi-elemental Clusters, their Confines and Microenvironment, and Catalytic Consequences in DeCarbonization Catalysis” , led by Jean-Yves Piquemal (UPCité) and Ya-Huei Cathy Chin (UofT).

Three projects in Health :

  • “Establishing a Pipeline to Fast-track Placental and Fetal-Targeted Nanomedicine”, led by Karine Andrieux (UPCité) and Hagar Labouta (UofT).
  • “TELESCOPE: Technology-Enhanced Learning for Endoscopic Ear Surgery (EES) – a Comprehensive Pedagogical Education Model”, led by François Simon (UPCité) and Jong Wook Lee (UofT).
  • “Artificial Intelligence for biomarker integration in Shock and acute COnditiOns Platform (ShockCO-OP)”, led by Feriel Azibani and Sabri Soussi (UofT).

The total funding envelope amounts to €50,000 from Université Paris Cité and CAD 75,000 from the University of Toronto. The projects will be funded for a maximum period of 18 months, from September 2025 to February 2027.
