Resilience Storytelling: Child-Centered Climate Education
How can stories help children understand climate change and disasters without fear – while fostering agency, resilience, and hope instead?
This seminar explores the transformative role of storytelling in child-centered climate and disaster education, moving beyond traditional fear-based approaches. Bringing together researchers, educators, and practitioners, the event examines how narratives, illustrated stories, and participatory classroom practices can support children as rights-holders active learners and agent of change.
Through presentations and interactive activities, speakers will share insights from education research, classroom practice, global policy, and creative communication initiatives. Participants will engage in collective reflection on storytelling and children’s participation, and on how child-centered narrative approaches can translate complex climate and disaster risks into meaningful learning and action – offering both critical perspectives and practical inspiration for building resilient futures.
