This conference is taken place as part of the ‘East-West Political and Cultural Circulations – 20th – 21st centuries’ seminar led by Sophie Cœuré and Alexandre Rios Bordes from the History Department of the UFR GHES.

Peace Studies – Theory and Practice & Case Study: The Yugoslav Wars (1991-2001)
The first part of the lecture will explain the origins and development of Peace Studies in Europe since the end of WWII. It will also cover the theoretical foundations of the discipline as well as peace-related practices in Europe during the Cold War. The second part of the lecture will focus on the wars that occurred in the Balkans in the 1990s, known as the Yugoslav Wars, and their consequences for the Balkans and Europe. Finally, the legacy of these wars will be compared with the ongoing War in Ukraine and the rising populism in Europe.
