In accordance with the law on student orientation and success, implemented on 8 March 2018, students admitted to a French institution of higher education are subject to a fee known as the CVEC. The fee must be remitted to the CROUS before enrolling. Here is everything you need to know about the CVEC.
What is the CVEC?
The CVEC is the Student and Campus Life Contribution fee. It helps to provide students with social, health, cultural and sport-related support, and to encourage preventive and health education initiatives.
By law, it is collected by the CROUS. For the academic year 2024-2025, it costs €103 a year. Students may be subject to it or exempt from it, depending on their situation.
How Much Does the CVEC Cost?
In 2024-2025, the Student and Campus Life Contribution fee is €103.
Who does the CVEC apply to?
The Student and Campus Life Contribution applies to all students, future students and international students enrolling at the university, unless they are exempt by law.

When should you pay the CVEC?
The http://cvec.etudiant.gouv.fr platform has been open since the end of May 2024.
The CVEC must be paid before registering at the university. You will need the code on your individual certificate to register.
How do you pay the CVEC?
- Payment is done online by credit or debit card
Step 1: Log in to one of these websites: https://www.messervices.etudiant.gouv.fr or http://cvec.etudiant.gouv.fr
Page: LOG IN. Students who have registered on Parcoursup for the current year will receive an email telling them how to create their account. Any other students will need to create their account or edit it if they no longer have access.
Step 2: Fill in the personal data required and indicate the city in which you will be studying
Step 3: Pay the CVEC online or request to be exempt from payment online.
- Cash payments
If you are unable to pay your CVEC online, go to the FDJ Nirio network to pay in cash. No handling fee will be charged.
Within 48 hours, the student will receive an email containing a link with which to download their CVEC certificate. This certificate contains a CVEC code, which you must keep if you wish to register at the university.
How and when to claim a CVEC refund ?
Future students can get reimbursed of the CVEC:
- If you are a scholarship holder
- If you qualify for an exemption
- If you have enrolled for a course that does not require payment of the CVEC
Refund requests are to be sent to the CROUS via the dedicated website.
If the student is an apprentice, they can ask their employer to reimburse the sum.
The CVEC reimbursement application campaign for the year 2023-2024 is closed 31 May 2024. Refunds are no longer possible.
Requests for CVEC refund for 2024-2025 will be open as September 1st 2024 until May 31st 2025.
Displaced students from Ukraine benefiting from temporary protection must apply for CVEC exemption before enrolling for a university course.
This exemption is conditional on obtaining a scholarship based on social criteria. Once the application for CVEC exemption has been submitted, the CROUS grants department will contact the applicant by e-mail to finalise the grant application. If they are eligible for a grant based on social criteria, they will receive a conditional grant notification and their CVEC exemption certificate by e-mail.
These documents must be presented at the time of registration to be exempt from tuition fees. As soon as the CROUS grants department learns that the student has been registered, they will be entitled to a 1-euro meal in university restaurants and a monthly grant. Read more
