A Longstanding Collaboration
For several years, Université Paris Cité and University of Chicago have maintained a partnership primarily focused on student mobility. This collaboration was further strengthened in 2024 with the inauguration of the International Institute of Research in Paris (IIRP). Located near the Grands Moulins campus, the IIRP is the University of Chicago’s first international research institute in Paris. It supports the development of interdisciplinary projects and hosts researchers, students, and teachers from around the world.
With this new agreement, Université Paris Cité and University of Chicago are expanding the scope of their partnership.
Along with enhancing student and teachers mobility, the two institutions are also focused on advancing collaborative research, co-organizing seminars, symposia, and academic conferences, and seeking new funding sources to sustain these initiatives.
This new partnership will offer valuable opportunities for researchers, students, and teachers from both institutions, reinforcing their shared commitment to innovation and academic excellence.
“This agreement marks the beginning of a promising partnership, rich with potential. In addition to the already strong ties between our universities, the close proximity of the Grands Moulins campus to the Paris center recently opened by the University of Chicago paves the way for numerous academic and scientific collaborations.
Moreover, Université Paris Cité is involved in the two CNRS International Research Laboratories based on the University of Chicago campus, strengthening the ongoing exchange of ideas and the joint development of research and knowledge.
The signing of this agreement with a U.S. university carries particular significance at a time when research in the United States is facing concerning uncertainties”. Antoine Kouchner, Vice President for International Relations at UPCité.
