The aim of Université Paris Cité Editions is to promote academic knowledge in the public space and debate on major contemporary issues and challenges. Inaugurated on the occasion of the first Planetary Health Week, with the release of its first two books, Université Paris Cité’s publishing house places research at the center of attention, to reconnect with accessible and committed science, essential to understanding the world.
17 September 2025: launch party for Université Paris Cité Editions, with the participation of Édouard Kaminski, president of Université Paris Cité, Valérie Robin Azevedo, scientific director of Université Paris Cité Editions, Aurélia Michel, co-director of the ‘Démêlés’ collection, Gaële Henri-Panabière, author of Premières classes, and Elyamine Settoul, author of Suprémaciste.
Recognised for its expertise in the humanities and social sciences, health, and in experimental and formal sciences, Université Paris Cité, is a major player in research, training and innovation in France and internationally. With its 113 research units, UPcité constitutes a rich, diverse, and ever-evolving knowledge hub, which places Université Paris Cité Editions as close as possible to science to make it accessible.
A cornerstone project for Université Paris Cité
Led since 2023 by the Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) Atrium, and in particular by Valérie Robin Azevedo, its scientific director, as part of the FIRE-UP project, the university press is fully aligned with the university’s scientific and promotional policy. This project has several objectives:
- strengthening the university’s visibility in sciences both nationally and internationally
- showcasing research excellence, particularly in HSS but also in experimental and medical sciences
- fostering a multidisciplinary dynamic, in collaboration with the university’s researchers
- establishing a durable university press competent in producing, distributing, marketing and promoting quality scientific content
‘This project embodies the values the university has upheld since its creation: openness to the world, knowledge sharing, and academic freedom. In a society questioning the current crises and the systems it is subject to, this allows us to carry out our mission: making science accessible to all. By doing this, we show how much the university is an asset in understanding the world of tomorrow,’ says the president of Université Paris Cité, Édouard Kaminski.
A publishing house dedicated to making a positive effect on society
Université Paris Cité Editions is for all readers: students, researchers, curious minds, and those seeking solid analysis and fresh perspectives. Science must not remain confined to laboratories. That is why Université Paris Cité Editions values knowledge.
‘At a time when misinformation is invading the media and discrediting scientific knowledge, our publishing house’s mission is promoting the distribution of reliable knowledge, based on specialised research supervised by peers, thus working to build a well-informed society,’ explains Valérie Robin Azevedo, scientific director of Université Paris Cité Editions.

‘Démêlés’, a collection of scientific communication
How to engage with and contribute to the debates shaping society, especially when the topics are sensitive, controversial, and difficult? The “Démêlés” collection provides solid and concrete benchmarks, based on scientific rigour to shed light on these debates and defend the use of knowledge in the face of received ideas.
In this first collection in the humanities and social sciences, scientific rigour meets the urgency of contemporary questions in committed and accessible books. Each book invite readers to reflection, an intellectual provocation that challenges as much as it enlightens.
Premières classes : Comment la reproduction sociale joue avant six ans (First class: how social reproduction affects children under six years old), by Géraldine Bois, Martine Court, Frédérique Giraud (ed.), Gaële Henri-Panabière (ed.), Charlotte Moquet, Fanny Renard, Olivier Vanhée and Marianne Woolven.
