Train, raise awareness and exchange ideas
At the heart of health issues in Africa
Université Paris Cité and its Global Health Institute, led by Director Xavier Jouven, in collaboration with a network of some twenty French-speaking African countries (ARN-ncd), are working together to identify local needs and develop tailored solutions. In response to the epidemiological, nutritional, and demographic transitions observed in recent years, several research and prevention initiatives focusing on non-communicable diseases have been implemented. This research enriches the educational offerings of both the University and the Circle U. Global Health Hub it leads.
An innovative educational offering
“The objective of this Hub is to design and implement prevention and care strategies tailored to everyone, within a context of increasing global and local inequalities.“
Jean Philippe Empana, Academic Director.
Through Circle U. and under the leadership of Jean-Philippe Empana, Academic Director of the Global Health Hub, the university is developing new teaching formats on its open campus. For several years now, it has hosted the ‘Global Health’ Summer School, which brings together students and experts from across Europe for a week to address these major contemporary challenges.
The university is also involved in launching innovative courses that integrate virtual exchanges or short-term mobility, such as the LEAD programme (Learning Effective Approaches in Development) and the PHEMED programme, designed to teach global and planetary health to medical students.
All these elements contribute to the creation of a European Master’s in Global Health, developed with European partners and the Institut Pasteur, which is expected to launch in September 2027.
