Course overview
Introduced in 1998 by its founding fathers Neithard Bulst and Jochen Hoock and now well established, the integrated Franco-German history programme aims to meet the needs of an increasingly globalised world. It offers a European experience that allows students, throughout their studies, to play an active role in continuing and strengthening Franco-German relations.
Unlike ERASMUS programmes, students on the integrated Franco-German programme are fully immersed in everyday life at Bielefeld University. They attend regular courses offered by both universities, whether in France or Germany. At the end of their studies, they obtain three degrees: the French Master’s degree, the German Master of Arts degree and the certificate from the Franco-German University.
The integrated programme has been positively evaluated on several occasions by the Franco-German University (DFH-UFA) based in Saarbrücken and receives financial support from it.
Skills and competencies developed
The Franco-German Master’s degree in History prepares students for scientific research. Students who successfully complete their studies often go on to pursue a PhD, either in France or Germany, or a joint PhD (Franco-German PhD).
It is also possible to pursue Franco-German careers in politics, economics or culture.
