Launched in 2020, Crowd4SDG is a Horizon 2020 research and innovation action supported by the European Commission’s Science with and for Society (SwafS) programme. The members of the consortium will host a final conference on March 17th at CERN in Geneva. The 5 finalists will present their citizen science projects. Registration is now open !
Three Years of Collaboration
On March 17th, Crowd4SDG project members will present results and outline plans for the projects to continue beyond the end of the project at the final conference. The members aimed to promote the development of citizen science projects addressing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with a focus on climate action, SDG 13. Consisting of a series of short presentations, panel discussions and hackathons, the day will be filled with activities relevant to all.
Over the last three years, a wide range of stakeholders including from the United Nations, governments, the private sector, NGOs, academia, innovation incubators and maker spaces, have been involved in supporting the selected citizen science projects as well as been exploiting the scientific knowledge and technical innovations they generate.
Five teams engaged in tackling climate action challenges have been selected and guided across all three “GEAR cycles”, a novel innovation methodology, exploring a specific sustainability dimension of climate preparedness, in connection with another SDG: sustainable cities (SDG 11), women empowerment (SDG 5) and human rights (SDG 16).
Programme
Morning: Demonstrating the Potential of Citizen Science for Monitoring
The morning session is structured around presentations and roundtable discussions, with presentations exploring citizen science tools with artificial intelligence, demonstrating the value of citizen science data for monitoring the impacts of extreme climate events, empowering local communities with a citizen science solution kit, among others; with speakers from the consortium and Crowd4SDG GEAR cycle participants.
Crowd4SDG finalists from all three GEAR cycles will present posters on their projects, highlighting what has been achieved over the three years of Crowd4SDG.
Afternoon: Hackathons
Three hackathons will run in parallel throughout the afternoon, also focused on the theme of using citizen science tools and how they can be used beyond the Crowd4SDG project. They aim to develop the ideas surrounding citizen science and crowdsourced data collection in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The hackathons will be led by Crowd4SDG partners.
Registration
The conference is open to the public but registration is required. Please complete the registration form here. Please note that you are only registering for the final conference on March 17.
About
Crowd4SDG is consortium made up of 6 partners (UNIGE, CERN, CSIC, Politecnico di Milano, UNITAR, Université Paris Cité) and their associated research labs (Citizen Cyberlab, Instituto de Investigación en Inteligencia Artificial, Learning Planet Institute), Crowd4SDG promotes citizen science aimed at tackling the SDGs, with a focus on Climate Action, through an innovation cycle called GEAR (Gather, Evaluate, Accelerate, Refine).
