[Circle U.] The Energy Cost of AI Development: How High Is the Price? @ Online

The rapid development of artificial intelligence is leading to a sharp rise in digital infrastructure, particularly data centres, which are well known for their high energy consumption. How can we reconcile technological innovation with energy efficiency? This is the central question of the Circle U.-labelled conference and debate, held as part of the ICENSS (International Conference on Energy Saving and Storage). Join us on 26 May online – free registration open until 22 May!

Circle U. at the 4th Edition of the International Conference on Energy and Storage

As part of the 4th edition of the ICENSS congress, hosted by Université Paris Cité, the European alliance Circle U. will contribute to the discussion by organising a conference and debate on the topic “AI Development and Its Energy Challenges.”

This session, open to the general public, will be livestreamed via Zoom to encourage broad participation.

Topics to Be Covered

  • AI and Computational Demands: Professor Antonio Cisternino (University of Pisa) will explore the explosion in computing power requirements, opportunities for software optimisation, and emerging prospects for sustainable AI. He will emphasise the importance of designing both algorithms and infrastructure with sustainability in mind.

  • Energy Management in Data Centres: This session will present recent innovations in cooling systems powered by renewable energy, including hydrogen-based solutions, aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of data centres.

  • Round Table Discussion: Moderated by the Circle U. Climate Chair at Université Paris Cité, this session will bring together speakers to discuss practical ways to reconcile AI development with energy efficiency. The audience will also be invited to take part in the discussion.
